Art Journal Pages and Day of the Dead Altar

Journal Pages

I was kind of stuck trying to finish making my journals.  There are two of them ready to be bound, just sitting on my table.  So I decided I needed to work in one of my new art journals.  I grabbed my composition journal and decided what I needed was to make a tribute page to Jade.  Another step towards my healing.  So here is my first page in my new journal.

That got me started, and the next day I decided to make a spread using the same journal.  I wanted lots and lots of texture.  I had glued two pages together, and then gessoed them.  I glued down squares and  strips of paper I had laying around left over from making  journals.  I also used pieces of the photo paper I had cut from around Jade’s photo and added some torn strips from a book page.  Leaving spaces where only the gessoed pages showed through.

Added yarn to the page.

Still wanted more texture and added some yarn to the page.  Added acrylic paint and then a white wash.  Finally, I decided it needed one of my girls.  Using chalk, colored pencils and acrylic paint.

Altar

Every year I set up an altar for the Day of the Dead.  This morning when I got up I decided I needed to get that taken care of because my daughter was hinting about it.  I have two small photo albums that I use.  One for family members who have passed over and one for our beloved furry friends.

I always set this up on our computer table.

This is the way it is set up at the moment, but I have a tendency to add to it as the weeks progress,  so I don’t promise it will remain the same.

Do you have a Day of the Dead Altar?   A tribute to those who have left before you?  LOL  or do you just think I’m weird?  Let me know.  You won’t hurt my feelings.  I promise.
