Making this house ours

Wanted to share with you the new colors of our house.  When we purchased the house it was white with black trim.  It just didn’t suit our personalities.  Cherrie wanted to make the house hers and this is what it looks like now.

Shades of orange and brown.

One of the neighbors, Katheryn, said to me: “Jack told me you were going to paint the house orange.  I said, Who paints there house orange!  But now that I see it, I really like it!”

Not sure we are keeping the bushes, but that will be a decision for another day, week, month….maybe even year  LOL

I didn’t like the shutters, but now that they are painted, I have changed my mind.   I like them.

This was taken prior to the trim being painted.  Hmmm  well just pretend the trim around the door is brown.  The window at the right is the kitchen and the washer and dryer are hooked up below that window.  The other window is to what I call the great room.  The living, dinning and kitchen all open as one room.

OK  So there is the house with it’s new coat :-).  We love it!!  Tomorrow the house gets new gutters and then the outside is done for now.  Next Cherrie starts on the inside.  More about that later.

New Years Morning

I know I have been gone for quit a while, but moving seems to take a lot of my time and major amounts of my energy.  Just thought I would stop in this morning to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to you.  Hope everyone has a happy, productive new 2014.

This is how mine started this morning.

Art That Makes Me Calm

CHANGE IN WEATHER

Fall is here and that is always a bonus.  🙂   The temperatures have dropped.  No longer in the high 80’s to 90’s.  The colors are my favorite!  Love the way the leaves turn many shades of gold, red, and orange.

CHANGE IN MOOD

Lessons done...Need is to create. Follow your muse.

Lessons done…Need is to create. Follow your muse.

My mood has changed, but I don’t think it is the weather.  Fall weather doesn’t usually bother my mood.  If anything it brings it up and puts a smile on my face.  I think I just have so much going on right now with my mom being ill and having to be put in a nursing home; my hip hurting and stopping me from getting the exorcize I want and need; and looking for a house to buy can also but you in an anxious mood.

I have turned to my art journals to ease my mood.  Shift it to make me calm.  I am using a small calendar book journal to work collages in.  I am the most relaxed when I am collaging.

I still have 5 lessons to do in my BOD/BOM. But just not in the right place to do them.

I had been practicing doing a different style of eyes on a plain sheet of sketching paper.  So I decided to complete the face and add it to this spread.

FITW III

I am participating in an art exchange with the 29 Faces group.  I received the beginning sketch of a face from Jacqueline Ramirez and added to it and sent it on to Rachel Biddllecome to finish it.  I know, I know, I should have taken a photo prior to adding my part, but I didn’t.  Still here it is after I worked on it.

FITW III 2013

FITW III 2013

I don’t intend to participate in any exchanges or classes for a bit while things settle down.  I need to be able to just go to my craft room and do whatever I want to do.  When you agree to participate in an exchange, or class, or challenge;  you have certain things you are “supposed” to do.  Usually I like the challenge in that.  But I need a vacation from it for now.

Hope you are having fun with your art.  To me that is what art is about.  Sending you hugs and smiles!

Life Has Ups And Downs

Nummies For Breakfast

First I will address breakfast.  🙂  My daughter made crescent rolls with chocolate chips in them to take to the office this morning.  That means I have a reason to have one for my breakfast (OK not a good reason, but an excuse).

What I saw on my morning walk.

Then I went for a walk and spotted this beautiful mushroom.  It was about 6 inches across.

I also gathered some leaves, little cones and sticks.  I am going to use them in a journal page soon.  Will share that when it is done.

Book of Days Week 13

As you guys know my Mom is in a nursing home and I am very worried about her.  My sister said she seemed really weak yesterday.  Didn’t want to go for dinner and too weak to walk to the cafeteria.  They had to get a wheel chair for her and push her there.  So of course I had to journal all my anxieties about her.  Here is the page I made.  It is for my BOD Week 13.

Our Deck Garden

Cactus

Cactus

It is 1:40 and I am unable to sleep.  Thought I would share with you some of our deck garden.  Living in an apartment we just have a small deck, no yard.  However we have managed to cram over 30 plants on to our deck.

Cactus in bloom

We have two cactus.  One of which started blooming every year.  It usually blooms only one flower a year and it only last 2-3 days.  This year it bloomed twice!

Clover

This clover was a starting from a friends yard.  Such a wonderful color.  I never see anything but the white in the stores.

Wow,  This corner looks nothing like this now.  Full of different plants.  I will take some new photos and share the newer plants with you a little at a time.

Just want to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts about my mom.  Sending my love out to her and hoping she is having a restful night.

The Beauty of California

Today I will pick myself up, shake myself off, and try again!  I haven’t blogged in a couple of days, haven’t gone to the gym, haven’t really eaten they way I should, haven’t done much work around the house.   So today I got up at 7am and went to the gym at 8:30.  It is 9:25 and I am working on my blog.  I am going to do better today :-).

I did work in one of my journals.  Trying to finish it since it only had a few pages left.  I did accomplish that and will make a video flip to show you.  It is my very first journal!  And although I don’t like every page.  It is the start of my journey through this wonderful world of art journaling that I have started.  It has made my very happy.  I have a smile on my face much more often.  I am truly glad I started this journey and found all of you in the process.  🙂

I want to share some of my photos with you from my day trips.  These trips occurred mostly between 2007-2009.  I had them all nicely labeled and organized.  Then a virus hit my computer and I was lucky to even save them (thanks to my son, David).  I then bought an external drive to save my photos on so I wouldn’t loose them should a virus ever attack again.  I don’t think I completely understood how to transfer the photos to this new device and keep them organized, because they lost all their labels Now I can’t tell you exactly when or where most of them where taken.  Most of them were taken in my beautiful California or on the California/Nevada border.  I believe these were all taken in May 2009.

My second day of 30 with 30

Spent a great deal of my time this morning trying to set up my blog.  Never had one before.  Never had anything to put on one.  I thought I would share with you some of my pictures.  I love to take pictures and have been doing so for the past 4 or 5 years.  I used to get in the car every week end with my travel buddy and we would stop various places around California and take pictures.  He has moved away and I no longer have anyone to travel with, so it has slowed me down a lot.  But I have many found memories of our travels.Image

Pictures are a wonder unto themselves.  Pieces or art that connect directly with the emotions you where having, the people you were with and the places you were lucky enough to visit.  I hope you enjoy.
