Something I want to share

Something To Share

I found this very informative.  Something I needed to read.  I thought some of you might also enjoy this information.  I don’t like the way this is stated (what I just wrote).  Very dry.  All I can say is take a minute to read Lori-Lyn’s post.  It is well worth the read.

BOD 2014

This is the first week for Book of Days 2014 with Effy Wilde.  This week we are doing a page representing our word for the year (mine is a phrase…not a word).  This is my page.  I finished it yesterday while Cherrie and Edison worked on a wall in the living room.  I had to just stay out of the way and what better way to do that than create!

BOD 2014 Week 1

BOD 2014 Week 1

My phrase for the year is Relax and Enjoy.  This is made with acrylic paints for the background, and colored pencils to color the face I drew.  The butterflies are Main Street Wall Creations  jumbo stickers.  I get them at the Dollar Tree.  28 butterflies in beautiful colors for a dollar!!  🙂

I am still unable to find my favorite pens and pencils, but found some of my daughters pencils…just not the colors I usually use, but having fun with them anyway.  I am very limited on my pens, but have a regular black Sharpy and used a white pencil for the white marks I wanted to make.

This is a page in one of my Art Journals I completed yesterday while staying out of the way.

Creating art

I really enjoy making these faces, so I will probably continue to include them in a lot of my pages.

My Life

So while Cherrie and Edison were working on the living room wall, they sent me to pick up the pizza.  On my way home my transmission decided to stop shifting into 2nd gear.  So it starts out from a stop just fine, then picks up speed till it gets fast enough to go into 3rd … and suddenly BANGS into 3rd!  Not good!

That leaves me without transportation until it can be fixed.  I of course have no money to fix it since it will be very expensive.  However, I do have a wonderful daughter who will put it on her charge card and let me make payments.  Sooo very grateful to my daughter….but still not happy about it, or the fact that I have to owe her soo much money :-(.

Trying to look at all of the good sides to this, but just not happy.  I know,  I must keep smiling!  🙂

Making this house ours

Wanted to share with you the new colors of our house.  When we purchased the house it was white with black trim.  It just didn’t suit our personalities.  Cherrie wanted to make the house hers and this is what it looks like now.

Shades of orange and brown.

Shades of orange and brown.

One of the neighbors, Katheryn, said to me: “Jack told me you were going to paint the house orange.  I said, Who paints there house orange!  But now that I see it, I really like it!”

Closer view of front.

Closer view of front.

Not sure we are keeping the bushes, but that will be a decision for another day, week, month….maybe even year  LOL

Corner on the front.

I didn’t like the shutters, but now that they are painted, I have changed my mind.   I like them.

Back of house

Inside the patio.

Inside the patio.

This was taken prior to the trim being painted.  Hmmm  well just pretend the trim around the door is brown.  The window at the right is the kitchen and the washer and dryer are hooked up below that window.  The other window is to what I call the great room.  The living, dinning and kitchen all open as one room.

OK  So there is the house with it’s new coat :-).  We love it!!  Tomorrow the house gets new gutters and then the outside is done for now.  Next Cherrie starts on the inside.  More about that later.

Our Deck Garden

Cactus

Cactus

It is 1:40 and I am unable to sleep.  Thought I would share with you some of our deck garden.  Living in an apartment we just have a small deck, no yard.  However we have managed to cram over 30 plants on to our deck.

Cactus in bloom

Cactus in bloom

We have two cactus.  One of which started blooming every year.  It usually blooms only one flower a year and it only last 2-3 days.  This year it bloomed twice!

Clover

Clover

This clover was a starting from a friends yard.  Such a wonderful color.  I never see anything but the white in the stores.

One corner of the patio

One corner of the patio

Wow,  This corner looks nothing like this now.  Full of different plants.  I will take some new photos and share the newer plants with you a little at a time.

Just want to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts about my mom.  Sending my love out to her and hoping she is having a restful night.

Book of Mirrors Lesson 8

I know, this is my second post today and I might do a third (need to catch up).  This is my Book of Mirrors (BOM) Lesson 8.  I really enjoyed doing this one!  Hope you like it.

ImageThis is the complete spread.  For the background I collaged on text pages from a book and pages from a Dell Crossword Puzzle book from the 60’s.  Then used some home sprays and craft paints to add the color.

Image

I then sketched a queen on the page and finished her up with craft paint and colored pencils.  Added some netting on her dress (I think this was given to me by Melody Hahn. If I am wrong, let me know so I can correct this) to add texture and glued on some crystals for her bling.  I don’t know why, but I found her great fun to create!

Image

Hope you can see the texture and bling here.

Image

I made a crown for her out of craft paper, gold pen and more bling.

Image

Cut some butterflies out of craft paper and glued them in place.  Used some of my alphabet stickers to spell out my words “i’m the boss of me!”.   Some shading and black around the edges of the page.  And that is pretty much it.

Hope you enjoy creating yours as much as I did mine.

Remember to smile!  🙂

A VIEW INTO MY MORNING

Just thought I would share my morning with you.  I’m in a good mood this morning.  After all I woke up, I’m still alive and I have art work to do.  🙂

Missed two days in a row going to the gym.  But this morning I’m ready to go!   Outside it was 68 degrees and overcast.

ImageThis does not look like a morning shot!  And by the way, the skies have already cleared up.

I walk through the pool area to get to the gym.

Image

ImageIt isn’t so cloudy this direction.

This is our gym.  I think we are very lucky to have this much equipment.  After all it is free to us.

ImageEvery time I go to the gym, I walk for a mile on the treadmill.  Have been keeping the distance the same, just increasing my speed and the incline on the machine.

ImageHere is some of the other machines.  I am just starting to use.  I just got released by my Dr. on the 18th of this month to do upper body work.  One of the tenants here, Alan, showed me how to use the machine in the center, so that is the one I have been using.  Today I tried the one on the right of that.  Not sure I am doing it right.  Hoping to run into Alan again some day so so he can show me more of the machines.  I guess I could go knock on his door and ask him.  Hmmm  We will see.

ImageThis is the bicycle.  I haven’t tried it yet.  I figure that is too much like the treadmill.

Then when I got home I made myself some breakfast.

Image

I had hash-browns, celery, onion, canadian bacon, EggBeaters, with a little salsa on top, and oat-nut bread.  I also had cranberry juice to drink.

Hope you had a good morning!  And remember to smile  🙂

Enjoy yourself…don’t listen to others

I had an encounter with this lady today who made me feel bad about my art.  I know I shouldn’t let what she says bother me.  To her, abstract art is the only true art.   She doesn’t think you should try to draw faces, or animals, or anything realistic and says that is just garbage.  My use of stamps and stencils annoys her to no end!  She came over to my house to explain to me how to use various mediums in my art.  I did not ask for her advice, she just seemed to get up this morning and thought she should give it to me.  Then found out I was already using most of the mediums she wanted to tell me to use.  That I am just trying to enjoy myself and not be some famous artist….she doesn’t care.  She tells me she thinks I have enormous talent that I am wasting by doing what I am doing and not doing what she thinks I should do.  LOL

Because of who she is related to (a friend of ours) I don’t want to be too rude, but boy did I have to use a lot of self control to not tell her to just go away and stay away. I’m telling you by the time she left, she had me feeling bad about my work.  That is so silly of me.  Why do I let someone like that bother me.  Well anyway, she ruined my evening…well at least part of it.  I am pulling myself out of it now.  Thanks in part from the fact that I could sit down, blog about it, and in doing so see how silly it is to listen to such gibberish.  I am doing my art to make me happy.   My problem is I don’t take criticism well.  Even if I think the person is wrong, I let what they say bother me.  OK I need to just put her out of my mind and just be happy I have found my art.  🙂

And I need to smile!  Right?

Book of Mirrors Lesson 7

After staring at blank paper for a couple of days, I was finally able to start my BOM for Lesson 7.  Once I got started, I just kept going  🙂  I sketched and erased, and sketched and erased.  Then when her face was sort of what I wanted I started painting.  I used inexpensive craft acrylic paints, and just as inexpensive colored pencils.  Her hair is acrylic paints and a gold Sharpie pen.  I hope you like her!

The background is Caran d’Ache neoncolor II crayons applied with Liquitex Glazing Medium, stencils, acrylic paints, and stamps.

This is the completed spread.

I didn’t accomplish much else today.  Took the day and just enjoyed creating!  🙂  Tomorrow I will tackle  what Effy called “the ugly face”.

Did you smile today?

My first step into u tube

I am very excited!!  I made my first video to show you guys my 2013 half year planner and then posted it on u tube!!!  I couldn’t decide how to share my little planner with you and decided…I have a camera that takes videos…I have a tripod…I’m going to try it  :-).  Now all I have to do is figure out how to post it here :-/.

Maybe all I have to do is post the link.    http://youtu.be/K_DpdfJupRY

I don’t know.  Lets hope that works.  Now if that works…don’t make fun of me.  It is my first video and I was very nervous.  I sound very blah…not very perky.  But I figured it was fun to try.  We will see if I ever do it again  LOL

Gelli Plate failure and spray paints success

Just a quick note to tell you about what I did today.  I tried the Gelli Plate printing without a Gelli Plate (on a piece of glass).  It didn’t work very well.  The glass is too slick and doesn’t distribute the paint very evenly when I used the brayer.  So it wasn’t very successful.  Then I tried making some of my own spray paints…had a recipe that on got somewhere on u tube.  That didn’t work too bad.  Not as pretty or bright as the store bought ones, but OK.  I know have orange, pink, purple and blue.  I have one more bottle left.  Trying to decide whether to make kind of a turquoise or maybe black.  What do you think?  Let me know.

Well heading for bed.  See you tomorrow.

My Health Habits

OK I didn’t blog yesterday.  I seem to be having trouble getting started.  I feel I should be blogging about what is on my mind at the time I’m writing and what is on my mind a great deal of the time lately is my health.  My exercise and eating habits.  For those of you who don’t know I had a triple bypass surgery on May 2nd.  I have gone to two nutrition classes since then (part of my rehabilitation program at Kaiser).  One of the classes is Vegetarian Nutrition and the other was Heart Healthy Nutrition.  So of course I am supposed to have nothing fried, very little or no red meat, no fat or low fat dairy products, watch my sodium, no junk food, no fast food, and watch my sweets (since I also have type 2 diabetes).

I am not succeeding with this program.  Oh I am much better than before, but I had fried chicken a week ago and last night I had a fried pork chop.  No matter what the pork community tells you about it being the other white meat…the Heart Healthy class has it classified as red meat.  I feel bad whining about this because others have much worse problems than I do, but I’m doing it anyway.  I have a very hard time with the junk food issue (chips).  I want chips, cookies and ice cream.  🙂  And sometimes I eat them…sometimes too much.

I am also on an exercise program.  They want me to be walking for 30 minutes a day at a rate fast enough to get my heart rate up to at least 80 beats a minute.  There is a gym at my apartment complex so I can use their treadmill to get my 30 minuets in.  But I’m supposed to be doing this 5 days a week and I have trouble getting in more than 3 days.

The reason I am blogging about this is because I am hoping to shame myself enough to do better!  The nurse at the classes says we have to not be too hard on ourselves and understand that this is a process.  That we aren’t going to wake up the day after taking the class and do everything the new way.  That if we have a bad day, we need to just let it go and get up the next day to try again.  I don’t think having a bad day everyday, and saying oh well I’ll try harder tomorrow is quit what she meant.   I do want to live healthy, so I need to try harder.

OK I will shut up now and share some pictures.  These are our two cats.  Jade  is 15 years old.  She is my daughter’s cat (I live with my daughter).  She isn’t doing well right now.  She has skin cancer of the eyelid and we are quit worried about her.

Makaya is my cat.  He is 6 years old.

Everyone have a great day and keep smiling!  🙂
